Summer Institute

Hosted at select community colleges across the state, Summer Institute is a program placing students in credit-bearing and learning support courses. Successful students finish the program with college credits and eliminate the need for learning support.

Program Details

Throughout the program, students participate in all corequisite courses along with three college-level courses. If students successfully complete the program, they will earn college credits and build lasting relationships! Summer Institute provides students with the opportunity to experience college before they begin classes this fall. Students work with college professors and take college courses in a small and supported setting. Last summer, 96% of students found success in the Summer Institute!

The deadline to register is May 1, 2025. If you are planning to attend a Tennessee community college this fall, do not miss this exciting opportunity!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Participating in this program could impact your future scholarship eligibility. If you withdraw from the program after the college’s withdraw date then you would become permanently ineligible for TN Promise. Likewise, all students are required to maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA at the end of each academic year. In this case, your GPA would be checked at the end of the program and if below a 2.0, you would be permanently ineligible for TN Promise.

Additionally, participating in the program will mean you will begin accessing any state and/or federal aid that you are eligible to receive (Pell Grant, TN Promise, etc.). If you are eligible for a refund from financial aid, the college will hold any excess funds to cover the cost of your books for the program. Once your books are covered, you will receive any remaining excess funds from the college. Registering for the program means you agree to these terms.
